Edge of Existence
We were on the Edge of Existence,
Looking at the end of the road
Our homes were burning in the distance;
Nowhere left to go
We were on the Edge of Existence,
As the city approached
Oil filled our rivers
Overturned our boats
Birds of black tar feathers
Corpses lined our coast
We were on the Edge of Existence,
But who would ever know?
Looking at the past
What would our ancestors say?
The world rushed passed us dying
Too late for us now
The ink of history is drying
But our names won’t be found
We were on the Edge of Existence,
Only God cares for us now
Looking at the past
What would our ancestors do?
We were on the Edge of Existence,
Looking at the end of the road
