An Other Cup

About
In 2006 Cat, now Yusuf, delighted fans and the music industry with the release of An Other Cup, his first major release since 1978’s Back to Earth. It turned out that none of the charm or magic of his musical gifts had been lost in the intervening years. However, along with a new lower timbre to his unmistakable voice, the music displayed a level of depth and maturity, the result of his many varied life experiences. The album, released on Yusuf’s own Ya Record label in conjunction with Atlantic records, was produced by Yusuf and Rick Nowels and saw guest appearances from Alun Davies on guitar and Jean Roussel on keys, two of Yusuf’s long-term musical companions.
An Other Cup’s only single release was “Heaven/Where True Love Goes”. The song, a tender reworking of the final section of “The Foreigner Suite” off 1973’s Foreigner, neatly shows how Yusuf’s new life and faith co-exist harmoniously with his former existence as Cat Stevens.
